Chevy Fishing Team
I would like to thank
everyone who was able to make the first Powers Swain Chevy Team
Tournament of the year at Badin Lake. Thank you for bringing a
guest to be involved in this event. We hope that they to will
soon become Powers Swain Chevrolet customers as well.
We had 16 teams to fish this
event. We had 13 of 16 teams to weigh in. Welcome to all of
the new members who fished for the first time with us. We hope
that you will plan to fish the rest of the year with us. Tim
Wilke's son, Eric who is nine years old, fished his first bass
tournament. Tim was very proud to have his son fish with him.
Eric was presented a certificate for fishing his first tourney.
We also had two husband and wife team participate. This is what
is so much fun about fishing a Powers Swain Chevy Team
Tournament is because you can fish with family members and good
friends and have a good time on the water with fellow Team
members.
Just for the record, we did
stop at The Blue Bay restaurant where we all cooled off, drank
gallons of ice tea, ate too much, swapped lies and fished a lot
more while sitting there!
Here is a listing of how the
top 5 teams finished. The top three teams were presented with a
very special plaque. We paid the top five positions and the two
big bass pots.
1. Monica
and Max Altman with 12.72 lbs.
2. Hal
Abshire and David Blanton with 12.51 lbs. *
Big Bass honors with 5.64 lbs.
3. Todd
Parker and Everette Clemmer with 8.14 lbs.
4. Gary
Malkin and Tony Monaco with 7.67 lbs.
5. Roger
Baylous and Justin Currin with 7.47 lbs.
*Stephen
Janos and John Faass had second largest bass with 4.44
lbs.
A special thanks goes out to
Storm Rutcho for helping to measure fish, Roger Baylous for
doing the banking, Tim Wilkes for doing the pictures and David
Blanton for being the weigh master. Thanks to everyone who
helped set up and tare down the weigh in site as well.

American
Bass Anglers Couples Tournament
Greg Lahr says: "This West Point
Couples tournament was interesting. At our first spot I had a
crank bait get hung up and while trying to get it loose it came
flying back and stuck in Sherry’s
chin. After much work and a trip back to the truck to get a
better cutting tool we were able to push it thru and pull it
out. Sherry is tough!! No crying or
carrying on she just wanted to get it out and get back to
fishing. At our first stop after the hook incident I hooked into
this 5.30 monster but after that we were only able to land one
small spot and a lot of short fish. We finished in 6th
place (one out of the money) but considering the following I
think we did very well!

|
Fishing in
tournaments is nothing new to
Monica
Altman.
The Angier resident does so on a regular basis for the Power-Swain
Fishing Team based out of Fayetteville. But competing in a Women's Bassmaster Tour event is something at a different level altogether. Altman took a step even further by coming in first place among co-anglers last weekend in the third event of the Mercury Women's Bassmaster Tour event, held over a three-day period at Lake Norman. "It's great," Altman said. "I'm really excited. I didn't give any thought to winning it. I was hoping to finish in the top six." Altman, whose husband Max is the athletic director at Overhills, compiled a three-day total of six bass weighing 15 pounds, 3 ounces. Susan Bowes of Batavia, N.Y. was second with 13 pounds, 2 ounces. And that wasn't all. Altman raked in total cash and prizes worth $25,500, which was second best in the entire tournament only to boating division winner Lisa Sternard, who raked in $50,000. The biggest portion of Altman's winnings was a $24,000 SP-175 Triton bass boat. Altman, who already has a 22-foot Ranger 526, has to make a decision on whether to attempt to sell the new boat or take possession. "I was kind of shocked," she said. "I didn't know what to say. I was excited, happy. I still don't know what I'm going to do. I've got 90 days." The SP-175 is shorter at 17 feet but has a 90hp engine and state of the art features such as a 42-pound thrust motor guide and a Lowrance global positioning satellite (GPS). Altman won $500 in cash for hauling in Friday's biggest bass, one weighing 3 pounds, 14 ounces. She took in $1,000 in cash for coming in first place among co-anglers. Co-anglers partner with boat owners or operators in bass fishing tournaments. The co-angler fishes from the back of the boat while owner fishes from the front. Altman, who used a touring special rod and Ambassador Promag reel with a Berkeley Vanish 17-pound test line, basically won the tournament in the first two days. Her catch was 5 pounds, 10 ounces on Friday and 8 pounds, 11 ounces on Saturday. That was more than enough to offset her catch of 14 ounces on Sunday. "I had two excellent partners," Altman said. "They like to shallow fish, which is my strength." Danielle Kremmer of Florida was Altman's partner on the first day and Doris Parsons of nearby Maiden was her partner on the second day. Altman's third day partner chose to fish in deeper water and that made a difference, though not enough to cost her the victory. Altman did have one sizeable catch on Sunday but a penalty was incurred due to the fish being dead before it was weighed in. With her strong showing, Altman debuted at 59th place in the WBT non-boater season standings. In third place overall is North Carolina's Linda Berry, who placed third behind Altman and Bowes at Lake Norman. |

Carolina Bassers
Harris Tournament February 25, 2006
Tourney Rundown
The Carolina Bassers kicked off the 2006 tournament season at nearby
Shearon Harris Lake. Anglers were greeted with chilly
temperatures right at the freezing point, along with two other
tournaments that were being held on this relatively small
impoundment. The long awaited wait was over at 7:00a.m. when
54 anglers set out to catch some of the lakes infamous "Harris
Hawgs". Fishing proved to be hit or miss with most
anglers catching fish but the lakes slot limit of 16-20 inches once
again came into play frustrating a fair share of anglers as no
angler managed to weigh a five fish limit. Patterns varied
with most anglers reported catching their fish from crankbaits,
jigs, jerkbaits and the trusty Texas rigged worm.
Terry "Gettin jiggy with it" Teer bested all anglers
bringing in 4 fish weighing 11.66 pounds. The Kicker fish
eluded Terry, but not 2nd place angler Allen Thompson who weighed a
9.15 lb "Harris Hawg" along with another keeper for a
total weight of 10.32 lbs. Rounding out the top three was
Nathon Blanton also weighing two fish for 8.62 lbs.
The club's youth also kicked off the new season with visions of
catching a huge sack at this obviously healthy lake. Nick Bell
left off where he ended last year with the season's first win and
big fish weighing 5.44 lbs. Tyler Teer managed a solid keeper
taking 2nd place weighing 1.28 lbs. Coming in a close 3rd was
recently returned 2006 Junior Bassmaster Classic Competitor, Westley
Riddle With 1.26 lbs.

The Junior Bassmaster program began 20 years ago and currently
has participation by 43 states. This program allows Junior
BASS
members to compete an a local level, ultimately qualifying for their
respective state championship.
The competition program mirrors the BASS Federation tournament
structure, with one exception. Junior Bassmasters "do not"
have
Divisional competitions but are divided into two age categories:
11-14 and 15-18.
Competitions culminate in the JR Bassmaster Classic which takes
place the week prior to the Bassmaster Classic. For two days,
pro anglers competing in the CITGO Bassmaster Classic serve as
mentors and boat captains during the Junior Bassmaster
Championship,
piloting the boats from take-off until weigh-in. Pros are randomly
paired with the competitors for the competition.
Day one is a practice day where both the JR's. and the Pro's
enjoy a day of fishing and learning from one another. Day two is the
official
